Nolan Ryan

Nolan Ryan was born on January the 31st of 1947. Native of Refugio, Texas in the United States of America. His birth name is Lynn Nolan Ryan, Jr. and has a nickname, The Ryan Express. He is the son of Martha Lee Hancock Ryan and Lynn Nolan Ryan, Sr. His family is quite large, with four sisters and one brother. He worked alongside his father, helping him deliver The Houston Post. He was a professional baseball pitcher. He retired at the age of 46.

First Years

He started playing baseball at a very young age, he joined the Alvin Little League Baseball at nine. He was able to pitch his first no-hitter some years after that.

Education

He attended Alvin High School. While in there he played baseball and during that time he made a record that he held for forty four years. During his time there his coach was Jim Watson. During a game at Clear Creek High School in 1963, John Robert Murff of the New York Mets noticed Nolan.

Career

Two years after the New York Mets Scout had taken notice of him, Nolan was drafted by the very same team. First he was assigned to the Marion Mets from Virginia, a team of the Appalachian League of Professional Baseball. In 1966 he joined the New York Mets, he became the second youngest player to join the league. The following year he was called by the Military and had to complete a six-month Army Reserve obligation. During 1968 he also lead the New York Mets into a victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Being that the same year in which he pitched his first full season. He earned the nickname The Ryan Express from the New York’s press.

He was transferred to the California Angels in 1970. There he occupied the position of the starter pitcher. He made 383 strikeouts and surpassed a record by 1973. He signed a contract six years later with the Houston Astros. He made a record breaking milestone as he made his 3,509th career strikeout that same season. The following year he joined the Texas Rangers. He later retired at the age of forty six. This ends the sport section of this biography.

He made a great career that gave him a place in The National Baseball Hall of Fame. Among his accomplishments there is the fact that he made the world’s fastest pitch. It clocked at 100.9 miles per hour. Now a days his net worth is of $60 million.

Family Life

Nolan Ryan is a married man. He engaged to his wife, Ruth Holdorff, in 1967. They had met sometime before that during their high school years. Yes, they both attended the Alvin High School. Together they had two children, Reid and Reese. The first followed in his father’s steps and also became a baseball player, while in his college years; he later became an executive. For his part, Reese is the Chief Financial Officer for Ryan-Sanders Baseball.
