Abby Martin is an American journalist and presenter that hosts the show The Empire Falls on teleSUR which is funded by several Latin American governments. Abby Martin was born on September 6, 1984, in Oakland, California. Abby grew up in Pleasanton, California, and attended Amador Valley High School. She received an undergraduate degree from San Diego State University in political science with a minor in Spanish. While at San Diego State, Martin began to question what she believed was the selling of the Iraq War by the mainstream media. In 2009, Martin helped found the citizen journalism website Media Roots.
Abby Martin is a believer in conspiracy theories and once believed that the United States version of the events of September 11, 2001 was propaganda and that the United States government was complicit in what happened. Abby Martin has written four books: Framing the Messengers: Junk Food News and News Abuse for Dummies, Censored 2012: The Top 25 Censored Stories of 2010–11, Media Democracy in Action, The Unheard Story of Hurricane Katrina, Blackwater, White Militias & Community Empowerment, and Project Censored.
