Edited Biography:
Adrian Peterson was born on March 21, 1985, in Palestine, Texas. He came from an athletic family—both of his parents were college athletes. Peterson developed a natural talent for sports early on, which became the foundation for his future career in professional football.
While attending Palestine High School, Peterson was a standout athlete in football, basketball, and track and field. His junior and senior seasons particularly captured the attention of Division I recruiters. Inspired by his mother, a former track athlete herself, Peterson also excelled in track. Coaches believed that had he not pursued football, he could have become an Olympic-level sprinter. His reported personal bests include 10.19 seconds in the 100 meters, 21.23 seconds in the 200 meters, and 47.6 seconds (not 7.6) in the 400 meters.
Peterson was rated the No. 1 running back in the class of 2004 by Rivals.com and was awarded the Hall Trophy as the USA Today High School Offensive Player of the Year. He was also named the top high school player by several recruiting platforms including Rivals.com and College Football News. He committed to the University of Oklahoma, where he made an immediate impact as a freshman. Known for his power running and excellent field vision, Peterson became the first true freshman to finish as the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy.
