Born in the year 1945 on 12th May in Farnworth which is situated in Lancashire in England, Alan James Ball spent most of the early days of his childhood in England. Although there is not much detail available about his early life or how he spent his childhood days, but it is known that he is the son of the former football player Alan Ball Sr. His father died in the year 1982, but it can be said that Alan inherited the interest for football from him. It is known that he completed his education from the Farnworth Grammar School. He was married to Valerie Beech and the couple was happily married.
He started his career at a very young age when he became the part of his father’s team Ashton United. He then went on to sign with Woverhampton Wanderers for some time. After finishing his school, he was selected by Blackpool in the year 1961 and debuted in the professional football in 1962. He led his team to emerge victorious during his debut match with Liverpool.
In 1966, he was traded to Everton and started his career on a very good note. He led his team to victory during the Football League Championship in 1970. In the year 1971, he became a part of the club Arsenal. He was selected to become the captain of the team in the year 1974. He stayed with the team for two more years, but in 1976 he went on to join Southampton. In 1978, he shifted to North America and joined the Philadelphia Fury in the same year.
He played in the Soccer league there and after some time with the Fury, he went on to join Vancouver Whitecaps in 1979. In the year 1980, he moved back to England and joined Blackpool again and this time as a player as well as a manager. He left this work in 1981 due to his unsuccessful tenure with the team. He retired from his playing career in the year 1984.
Talking about his international career, he joined the national team in England and debuted in the year 1965 with the team. In 1966, he was chosen for the team for the world cup and became the youngest player to do so. His international career came to an abrupt end when he was not selected for the team at the age of 30. In 1984, he started working as a manager again and decided to manage the team Portsmouth.
In 1989, he was fired from his position and after which he became the assistant manager of Colchester United. He then became the manager of Stoke City but didn’t have a much successful tenure with them. He was also seen as the manager of the teams like Exeter City and Southampton. In 1995, he became the manager of Manchester City. In 1998, he again returned to manage the team Portsmouth. In the year 2007, Alan died owing to a heart attack. His net worth is unknown.
