Alessandra Ambrosio was born in 1981 in Erechim, a city in southern Brazil. Her parents, of Italian and Polish descent, owned a petrol station. Ambrosio showed an early interest in modeling and enrolled in a modeling class at the age of 12. By the time she was 14, she had started her professional modeling career. In 1995, she was selected as one of the 20 finalists in Brazil’s Elite Model Look competition, a national platform that launched many modeling careers.
Ambrosio rose to international prominence through her work with Victoria’s Secret. She became the first spokesmodel for the brand's PINK line and was later named one of the company’s official Victoria’s Secret Angels. Her growing visibility with the brand secured her modeling opportunities with top fashion houses such as Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior, Armani Exchange, and Next.
In 2012, Forbes ranked her as the sixth highest-paid model in the world, with estimated annual earnings of $6.6 million. Her global appeal and success in the fashion industry contributed to major endorsements and numerous advertising campaigns for luxury brands including Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Escada, Oscar de la Renta, Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana, and Gucci.
