Early Life and Education

Alex McArthur was born in March 1957 in Pennsylvania, United States. He is the son of Bruce McArthur, a contractor, and Dolores McArthur. From a young age, Alex aspired to become an actor. He later pursued his passion by studying acting at San Jose State University.

Career Beginnings and Breakthrough

McArthur began his career as a model before transitioning into film and television. His first film role came in 1981 with the romantic comedy They All Laughed, a movie about private detectives following two women. That same year, he appeared in episodes of the long-running television series Knots Landing, marking his initial foray into TV acting.

He gained significant recognition in 1986 after portraying Madonna’s boyfriend in the music video for “Papa Don’t Preach,” which brought him widespread attention. In 1987, McArthur achieved further fame with a leading role as a serial killer in the crime thriller Rampage. This performance solidified his status in Hollywood and earned him a devoted fan base.
