Amancio Ortega is a Spanish billionaire businessman who was born on March 28, 1936, in Busdongo de Arbas, Leon, Spain. He grew up with three older siblings and his parents, Antonio Ortego Rodriguez and Josefa Gaona Hernadez. His father's job as a railroad worker forced him to drop out of school and move to A Coruna when he was 14. Ortega began working as a hand for a local shirtmaker known as Gala where he learned how to make clothing by hand. His career has been a successful one and he has founded several businesses starting with Confecciones Goa in 1972 which sold quilted bathrobes. Ortega's next business venture would be opening his first Zara store with his wife Rosalia Mera in 1975.
His most successful venture would come in 2009 when he was part of the Inditex fashion group which he owned 59.29% of but he retired in 2011. He married Rosalia Mera in 1966 but the pair divorced twenty years later in 1986. They had three children together but Mera died in August of 2013. Ortego married again, this time to his second wife Flora in 2001. Ortega and his wife Mera currently live together in A Coruna, Spain.
