Amanda Barrie is known as an English actress. She is most famous for having appeared as Alma Sedgewick in Coronation Street, which she played on and off for 20 years.
Background
Amanda Barrie was born as Shirley Anne Broadbent in Ashton-under-Lyne, Cheshire on September 14, 1935. She was the little girl of Hubert Howath Broadbent, an accountant. Her mother was Connie Pyke Broadbent. Her mom was the one who significantly encouraged her young little girl into turning into a performer. Amanda was named after the kid star Shirley Temple.
Her grandfather was a theatre proprietor in Ashton-under-Lyne, and the young Shirley showed up there at 3 years old as a Christmas Tree Fairy. As an adolescent she won a talent contest by singing "I'm Just a Little Girl Who's Looking for a Little Boy". She at that point proceeded to go to class at St. Anne's College in St. Anne's-on-Sea and later studied acting at the Cone-Ripman School.
Career
Before her run on Coronation Street, Barrie made appearances in two of the Carry On films and one episode of the BBC comedy series Are You Being Served?. After getting her big break with Coronation Street, she has since enjoyed a varied stage and TV career.
