Early Life and Education

Andrea Canning was born on December 10, 1972, in Blue Mountain, Ontario, Canada, and raised in Collingwood, Ontario. Her mother, Katherine Canning, was a former ski champion and passed away in 2007.

Canning earned a degree in psychology from the University of Western Ontario in 1994. She later pursued studies in radio and television arts at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto (now Toronto Metropolitan University), laying the foundation for her career in broadcast journalism.

Marriage to Military Pilot Tony Bancroft

Andrea Canning married Tony Bancroft, a lieutenant colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and an F/A-18 instructor pilot. Introduced by her colleague and friend, journalist Martha Raddatz—who met Bancroft in Iraq—the couple formed a friendship that later turned into a relationship. They married in 2008.
