Andrew Brown is a news correspondent at CNN since the year 2000. He is based in Hong Kong, where he has spent the majority years of his career as journalist. His career as correspondent was cut short abruptly, when he was paralyzed after being surgically operated for a tumor in the spinal cord.

Personal Life

Andrew Brown was born in the year 1964. His early childhood was spent in the Guildford area located in the southern part of London. His professional career nonetheless was spent totally in Hong Kong.

Profession

Andrew Brown started his career in the year 1989, when he got a job at ATV. He then shifted to TVB and worked there for over five years. He also worked as a correspondent during his stint at TVB. He then shifted to Wharf’s cable news channel in 1993 and worked there till 1995. He also worked for Business TV Network CNBC, CBS radio, and several other local stations, before joining CNN. He then joined CNN in the year 2000. Reporting with Hong Kong as the base, Brown covered mainland China, South East Asia, and Hong Kong from 1989 to 2005.

Extinguished Career

Andrew Brown had to undergo an operation in his spinal cord for tumor removal in the year 2006. The operation left him paralyzed below the neck. He was reportedly abandoned by the neurosurgeon operating on him, after the surgery was over. The surgery had been done at The Bath Clinic situated in the western part of England. He sued the neurosurgeon for negligence with the help of Leigh Day & Co, medical negligence specialists. The case was settled in 2010, when the neurosurgeon agreed to pay a settlement of ?4.5 million and the legal costs were incurred by Brown. Earlier in 2009, a fundraising dinner was arranged to help him.

British born Andrew Brown is popular in CNN for creating quirky and sophisticated technologic features. His satire filled reports were quite famous among the international news network. His penchant for strange machines which supposedly track the hormonal cycles of women, control dreams, and translate animal sounds is well known. He has also done research related to passwords used in computers and Sars. Due to the unfortunate mishap during his surgery and the subsequent paralysis, his brilliant and promising career came to an abrupt end. He is now confined to a wheel chair and has chronic neuropathic pain that prevents him from leading a normal life.
