Anna Diop is an American-Senegalese actress who is perhaps best known for her role as the super-heroine Kory Anders/Starfire in the DC Universe series Titans. Titans is an American web series based on the DC Comics team Teen Titans, which features Robin, Starfire, Raven and Beast Boy in the eternal fight to save the planet. Anna Diop was born on February 6, 1988, in Dakar, Senegal; she moved to the United States at the age of six. Anna made her television debut in 2006 on the American situational comedy Everybody Hates Chris, which is based loosely on the teenage experiences of Chris Rock. Her television credits include Lincoln Heights, The Messengers, Quantico, Greenleaf, The Keeping Hours, and 24: Legacy. Anna Diop had a role opposite Jennifer Jason Leigh in the 2013 psychological film The Moment.
Some fans of Teen Titans have taken to social media to express their umbrage that Anna Diop, a black woman, was cast to play Starfire. They did not seem to understand that there were no supernatural, orange-skinned, energy-projecting aliens available to play the role and therefore resorted to making racial attacks; causing Diop to turn off the comments on her Instagram account and minimize her social media presence.
