Early Life and Education

Anna Kendrick was born on August 9, 1985, in Portland, Maine, to William Kendrick, a history teacher, and Janice Kendrick, an accountant. She spent her childhood in Maine alongside her older brother, Michael Cooke Kendrick, who is also an actor known for roles in films such as Looking for an Echo and appearances on Celebrity Ghost Stories.

Kendrick attended Longfellow Elementary School and later graduated from Deering High School. From an early age, she displayed a strong interest in performing arts, which eventually led her to pursue a career in acting.

Early Acting Career and Broadway Debut

Kendrick's passion for acting took root in local theater productions during her childhood. Her breakthrough came in 1998 when she was cast as Dinah in the Broadway musical High Society. Her performance earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, making her one of the youngest nominees in the award's history.
