Jacob Benjamin Gyllenhaal was born on December 19, 1980, in Los Angeles, California. His parents, Naomi Foner, a screenwriter and producer, and Stephen Gyllenhaal, a film director, were both active in the film industry. Growing up in such a creative environment, Gyllenhaal was exposed to filmmaking from an early age, setting the stage for his own artistic ambitions.

He is the younger brother of actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, who notably appeared alongside him in Donnie Darko as his on-screen sister. His godmother is actress Jamie Lee Curtis, adding another layer of Hollywood legacy to his background.

Acting Career and Breakthrough with Donnie Darko
