Ansel Elgort

Ansel Elgort is known as an American actor. He is most famous for playing Augustus Waters in the romantic film, The Fault in Our Stars in 2014 and as the title character in the action crime thriller, Baby Driver in 2017.

Background

Ansel was conceived in New York City by photographer Arthur Elgort and opera director, Grethe Holby. His father is of Russian-Jewish ancestry, while his mom has Norwegian and British Isles roots in her family. As a young tyke, Ansel went for a career in performance at the School of American Ballet, and went to Stagedoor Manor summer camp and Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School.

Career

He started his professional acting career in front of an audience, showing up in Matt Charman's play "Second thoughts," which was performed off-Broadway. Ansel made his film debut in the horror revamp Carrie in 2013. He co-starred with Shailene Woodley in both the sci-fi story Divergent (2014) playing her character's sibling and the romantic drama The Fault in Our Stars (2014) playing the male lead Augustus Waters, who is Woodley's character's love interest. The film was based on the book by John Green. Ansel additionally had a job in Jason Reitman's drama film Men, Women and Children (2014), and returned for the sequels of Divergent, Insurgent (2015) and Allegiant (2016). He had an appearance in Paper Towns (2015) which was also based on a book by author Green.
