Background and Age

Archie Mason Griffin was born on August 21, 1954. Archie Griffin is the son of James and Margaret Griffin. Griffin had six brothers and one sister. His brothers are Raymond, Duncan, Daryle, Larry, Jimmy, and Keith. His sister is Crystal. One of Archie’s brothers, Raymond, also played professional football. Raymond was a cornerback and was, for a short time, a teammate to his brother on the Cincinnati Bengals.

Archie Griffin began his football career when he played for Eastmoor High School in Ohio. As a senior at Eastmoor, Griffin played fullback, rushed for nearly two thousand yards, and scored over one hundred seventy points including twenty-nine touchdowns in just eleven games. That year Griffin took Eastmoor to the Columbus City Championship where he helped his team secure a victory by rushing for nearly three hundred yards. For his efforts, Griffin was inducted into the high school hall of fame and Eastmoor renamed their playing field “Archie Griffin Field” in his honor.

Marriage, Wife, and Kids

Griffin and his wife, Bonita, have three sons. His boys are named Andre, Adam, and Anthony. Griffin’s oldest son Andre put in over seven seasons as an assistant football coach for Saginaw Valley State University. Griffin’s son Adam was playing as a defensive back for The Ohio State Football team for over three seasons but when he suffered a shoulder injury, his career ended.

After stepping down from his role as president and CEO of the alumni association, Griffin planned to take things a little bit easier. When asked how he planned to spend his time, Griffin said “It’s an opportunity to spend more time with the family. My wife, Bonita, and I will definitely do some traveling. And as you know, I like to set goals. One of the games that drives me crazy, and I don’t feel I’ve improved at, is the game of golf. I’m sitting at a 14.5 handicap, and my goal is to get to single digits. But you have to play a little bit to get there, so I’m going to work on that.”
