In December 2001, she celebrated her marriage the famous INDYCAR driver Dario Franchitti, in his native Scotland. They had been dating for two years. When asked about the topic “children”, she said that there were too many children in impoverished countries that were starving and mistreated, and, therefore, she didn’t understand why she should have had any children, when there were so many in need of help, even her help. They do have two cockapoos named Buttermilk and Shug. Dario, is a four time INDYCAR series champion, a three time winner of the Indianapolis 500, as well as a winner of the 24 hours of Daytona.

After years of isolation and depression, due to the problems associated with a very dysfunctional upbringing, Ashley decided to go to Rehab for 47 days in 2006. In an interview she said “I needed help; I was in so much pain”. In her Memoir “All that is Bitter & Sweet”, she speaks of being sexually abused from various men throughout her life, which brought on a co-dependence and did not allow her to focus. She stated that she needed this rehab; otherwise she would have gone mad

In early 2013, after 11 years of marriage, Ashley and Dario mutually agreed to divorce, but they agreed to do it in a friendly way, so their families will always have mutual respect for each other. It was well known amongst the couple’s friends that their relationship was volatile at times, with instant fights breaking out between the two in front of their friends. This may have been because of Judd’s emotional instability as well as Dario’s strong personality. Nevertheless, these were the issues which may have caused the couple to come to conclude that being apart is best solution both of them.
