In 2013, Agar was called up to tour India with the Australian squad, participating in one tour match. Shortly after, he toured Ireland and England, gaining valuable experience under English conditions. Although not initially selected in the main squad, he made a surprise Test debut in the First Ashes Test at Trent Bridge in July 2013.
During his debut, Agar came to bat with Australia on 117/9 and remarkably scored 98 runs—still the highest score ever by a player batting at number 11 in Test cricket at that time. His 10th-wicket stand of 163 runs with Philip Hughes broke the previous record for the highest 10th-wicket partnership. Despite this remarkable performance with the bat, his bowling was less successful, leading to his omission from the squad after the second Test of the series.
Agar made his One Day International (ODI) debut against England on 8 September 2015. He later debuted in Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket for Australia in 2016 during a series against South Africa. Since then, he has continued to play in limited-overs formats for Australia, contributing as a left-arm orthodox spinner and lower-order batsman.
Ashton Agar plays domestically for Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. His consistent performances in Australia's domestic circuit have secured him a stable role in limited-overs squads at both state and national levels.
Agar comes from a close-knit family and maintains strong ties with his brothers, particularly Wes Agar, who is also a professional cricketer. Although his exact net worth is not publicly disclosed, his annual salary is reportedly around $900,000, stemming from his Australian cricket contract and franchise league commitments.
