Asieh Namdar was born in 1971 in Karachi, Pakistan, to Iranian parents. Her early years were shaped by the turbulence in Iran, where she spent much of her childhood. In 1979, amid the Iranian Revolution, Namdar and her family immigrated to the United States in search of stability and opportunity. Adjusting to life in the U.S. proved challenging, particularly due to cultural differences, language barriers, and the difficulty of social integration. Namdar earned her degree in communications from the University of California. She began her journalism career in 1989 in an entry-level position, initially aspiring to become a writer. Her dedication and talent led her to steadily climb the ranks in broadcast news, particularly at CNN, where she worked from 1998 to 2013. Her roles at CNN included anchor for CNN International, senior writer for HLN (2005–2013), and contributor to CNN.com. She began her tenure at CNN as a video journalist, demonstrating commitment and resilience throughout her journey.
Since 2014, Asieh Namdar has served as an anchor at CGTN America, the U.S. division of China Global Television Network (formerly CCTV America). Through her work, she aims to broaden viewers' perspectives by offering diverse international news coverage.
