Avan Jogia is a Canadian actor, director, and activist born on February 9, 1992, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He is of British-Indian and British-German descent. Jogia has an older brother, Ketan Jogia, who works as a music producer based in London.
During his early education, his parents chose to homeschool him for part of his schooling years. He later attended Killarney Secondary School in Vancouver but left at the age of 17 to pursue a career in acting. At that point, he had already appeared in several small television roles and decided to commit fully to his passion by relocating to Los Angeles, California. He gave himself a six-month window to secure an acting role, resolving to return to school if unsuccessful.
Jogia's initial venture into film began with his role in the 2006 television movie A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story, which addressed themes of gender identity and social justice. In 2008, he appeared in the Nickelodeon original movie Gym Teacher: The Movie, further building his early portfolio.
His self-imposed six-month trial in Los Angeles proved successful. In 2009, he landed a leading role opposite Victoria Justice in the musical film Spectacular!, which aired on Nickelodeon. This role helped solidify his presence among a younger audience and opened the door to future opportunities in television and film.
