Barbara Windsor is and English actress best known for her portrayal of Peggy Mitchell in the BBC One Soap opera EastEnders. Barbara Windsor was born Barbara Ann Deeks on August 6, 1937, in Shoreditch, London. Barbara Windsor was the only child of a costermonger (a street seller of fruits and vegetables), and a dressmaker. Barbara attended Our Lady’s Covent in Stamford Hill and took elocution lessons at the Aida Foster School in Golders Green. Barbara Windsor made her stage debut at the age of thirteen taking the stage name Windsor after being inspired b the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

 Windsor appeared in nine Carry On films and other various Carry On compilation specials between 1964 and 1977. Her theatrical performance in the Theatre Workshop’s Oh, What a Lovely War! earned Barbara Windsor a 1965 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Barbara Windsor married three times but did not have any children. She was married to her first husband, Ronnie Knight, in 1964 and they were together for twenty one years. She married a restaurateur, Stephen Hollings, in 1986, and they had a nine year marriage. Barbara Windsor married her third husband, actor Scott Mitchell, in 2000. In May of 2018, Scott Mitchell announced that Barbara Windsor had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in April of 2014.
