Bill Moyers is an American journalist and political commentator who was born on June 5, 1934, in Hugo, Oklahoma to Ruby Johnson John Henry Moyers. His full name is Billy Don Moyers and he was raised in Marshall, Texas. Moyers began his journalism career when he was just 16-years-old when he reported for the Marshall News Messenger in Marshall, Texas. He went on to attend college for journalism at the North Texas State College in Denton, Texas. Moyers landed a summer intern job in 1954 for then-U.S. Senator Lyndon B. Johnson. He was even promoted to manage Johnson's personal mail. Moyers eventually transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, Texas. During this time, Moyers wrote for The Daily Texan newspaper until he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.
Moyers went on to work as an assistant news editor for KTBC radio and television stations which were owned by Lyndon B. Johnson's wife, Lady Bird Johnson. Moyers returned to school to complete a Master of Divinity degree at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He went on to work as a pastor in Williamson County outside of Austin, Texas. Moyers also served as Deputy Director of the Peace Corps in 1962. After President Kennedy was assassinated and Lyndon B. Johnson took office, Moyers worked as a special assistant for Johnson from 1963 to 1967. Moyers married Judith Suzanne Davidson on December 18, 1945, and have three children together.
