She is known as an American oboist, performer, producer, speaker, and journalist who has worked on famous films and television programs like Malcolm X and Mozart in the Jungle. She also had a famous marriage when she was once married to science celebrity figure, Bill Nye the Science Guy.
Blair wrote about classical music for the New York Times and has performed, toured and recorded with the New York Philharmonic orchestra. During a fellowship at The MacDowell Colony, she completed and wrote a novel called "Mozart in the Jungle". The excellent novel was optioned by an actor named Jason Schwartzman. Jason and his cousin Roman Coppola, director Paul Weitz, and Broadway star Alex Timbers, created a comedy television series based on Blair’s book. The show gave the casual audience an inside look at the members of an orchestra.
