On January 31, 2015, Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive in a bathtub at her home in Roswell, Georgia, under similar circumstances to her mother’s passing. She was transported to Emory University Hospital and placed in a medically induced coma. Despite medical efforts, she never regained consciousness and died on July 26, 2015, at the age of 22.
An initial autopsy was performed, but details were initially withheld under court order. Eventually, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s report revealed that Bobbi Kristina’s death resulted from lobar pneumonia due to hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy—a condition caused by a lack of oxygen—and immersion in water. Drug intoxication, including marijuana, alcohol, sedatives, and other substances, contributed to her death but were not deemed the sole cause.
Bobbi Kristina's estate filed a $10 million wrongful death lawsuit against Nick Gordon, alleging that he was physically abusive and had given her a toxic cocktail that rendered her unconscious. The lawsuit also accused him of misappropriating her funds. Gordon's legal team denied all allegations, calling them unsubstantiated and defamatory. In 2016, a civil court found Gordon legally responsible for Bobbi Kristina’s death and ordered him to pay $36 million in damages, though the ruling did not carry criminal liability.
