Brian’s first one-hour special Standing Up debuted on Comedy Central on June 10, 2007. The special was recorded in April 2007 at The Barclay Theater in Irvine, CA and a DVD of the performance was released on August 14, 2007. His second Comedy Central special, entitled The Epitome of Hyperbole, premiered on September 6, 2008. A DVD of the performance was released three days later September 9, 2008.
In 2012, he was a featured guest on comedy legend, Jerry Seinfeld's web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
Reaching His Peak
On September 26, 2015, Regan appeared on the first ever live special on Comedy Central, Brian Regan: Live from Radio City Music Hall. It was released as a video album in February of 2016. The Radio City Music Hall was a huge accomplishment for Brian. In an interview for Vulture with fellow clean comedian Jim Gaffigan, Brian described the special, “When I first started, I could not have possibly imagined performing at Radio City Music Hall. All I knew of was comedy clubs. That was the ultimate goal. When I first started — actually, when I first started, comedy clubs didn't even exist other than in New York City and Los Angeles. I was just very fortunate that when I wanted to do comedy, comedy itself, as a newfound art form, if you will, at least for the nation as a whole, exploded. Then the first time I performed in a theater, I was lucky enough to open for Jerry Seinfeld. His TV show had been on for like two years and wasn't as big of a hit as it ended up being. And the first time I got onstage in a theater in front of his audience and had a good show, I immediately knew that was the new quest. It was like, "Wow, this is what I want." I want a room full of people who are sitting in red velvet chairs, who are facing the stage and 100 percent paying attention.”
In 2017, Regan signed a deal with the mega popular streaming service, Netflix to release two stand-up specials, “It was awesome. I’m actually in LA to do the final editing for the special. You know, a lot of people think that a special is one uncut performance. When I’m really on stage, at some points, it’s quieter, but we edit all the best parts of the performance together for the special.”
Regan once described the nature of his comedy, “Sometimes I feel like it's a big mine out there, and all the comedians are coming out with their pickaxes over their shoulder and saying "There ain't nothing left in here." And I'm saying, "Well, I'm going in there. I want to see if there are more jokes in airline travel or about food or about going to the doctor". Point is that it's endless. Hopefully you can always find interesting things in whatever kind of subject. And it's particularly fun to find humor in mundane subjects.
Regan is famous for his roles in Hyperbole (2008), Top Five (2014), Loudermilk’ (2017), and many other films and TV shows.
Family Life
Brian got divorced from his wife Kathleen in 2011. His divorce news did not attract any attention because it was a mutual separation. The separation was smooth and the financial asset issues were handled privately. It was rumored that Regan went into little depression after the separation.
Unlike other comedians, he never used his separation from his wife as material for his comedy.
