On January 12, 2011, Orpik reached a significant personal milestone by recording his 100th NHL point. He earned the assist on a goal by teammate Evgeni Malkin during a game against Ryan Miller and the Buffalo Sabres at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. Later in his career, Orpik joined the Washington Capitals, where he served as an alternate captain and played a vital leadership role on and off the ice.
Orpik represented the United States at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship in Stockholm. He also participated in the USA Hockey Olympic orientation camp in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver. Orpik was selected for Team USA and contributed to the team's silver medal finish, following a loss to Canada in the gold medal game.
Brooks Orpik is married to Erin Lilly. Before their marriage, Erin was known for her philanthropic involvement, particularly as the organizer of the annual "Pens and Pins" charity event. This bowling fundraiser benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation and is a collaboration between Pittsburgh Penguins players, their families, and the community. The event is well-loved among players, their significant others, and fans alike. The couple has a daughter named Harlow Lilly.
