Evgeni Malkin, a professional ice hockey player, was born on July 31, 1986, in Magnitogorsk, Russian SFSR. He is Russian by nationality. His father, Vladimir Malkin, worked for a prominent steel company in Russia and also played professional ice hockey. His mother, Natalia Malkin, supported his early interest in sports. Despite both of his parents being of shorter stature—leading many to assume he would be the same—Malkin defied expectations both in height and athletic capability. He demonstrated an early passion for sports, beginning to skate at just three years old.
