Early Life and Family

Catherine McClements is an Australian actress known for her diverse roles in film, television, and theatre. Born in 1965 in Melbourne, Australia, she was raised in a family of five. Her parents, Frank and Pamela McClements, both worked as high school teachers. Catherine has two sisters, Susan and Georgina, and a brother, Brendan. Education and Early Theatre Involvement

Catherine studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), graduating in 1985. While at NIDA, she and fellow students—including acclaimed filmmaker Baz Luhrmann—formed a theatre group called Six Years Old. During their time at the institute, the group produced and performed an early version of Strictly Ballroom, which was staged during their second year of study.

Acting Career

McClements began acting professionally during her studies, starting in 1983 with Melbourne’s St. Martin's Youth Arts Centre. After graduating, she quickly established herself in film with early roles in The Right Hand Man (1987) and My Brother Tom (1986).

She achieved national recognition in 1996 with her role as Detective Rachel Goldstein in the long-running television drama series Water Rats, a role she held until 1999. Following this, McClements appeared in notable series such as CrashBurn (2003), where she starred as Rosie, and made a guest appearance in The Secret Life of Us.

Her film work includes playing Ava in Floodhouse (2003) and Nikki Kirby in the TV movie After the Deluge (2003). In 2005, she appeared in The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant as Marleen. Subsequent roles include appearances in Call Me Mum, Sexy Thing, and Real Stories in 2006.
