Charlotte Riley is an English actress born on December 29, 1981, in Grindon, County Durham, United Kingdom. She was raised in County Durham and attended Teesside High School during her formative years. In 2000, Riley enrolled at St Cuthbert's Society, Durham University, where she studied English and Linguistics. While at university, she actively participated in theatrical productions and was a member of the Durham Revue, a college sketch comedy group.
