Charlotte Riley is an English actress who was born on December 29, 1981, in Grindon, United Kingdom. She grew up in County Durham where she attended Teesside High School. Upon graduating high school, Riley went on to attend St Cuthbert's Durham University in 2000. During her time at the university, Riley performed with the sketch comedy group, the Durham Revue. She also appeared in several plays and musicals. Riley graduated with a degree in English and Linguistics before going on to attend the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in 2005. Riley co-wrote "Shaking Cecilia" with Tiffany wood which won the Sunday Times' Playwriting Award. Riley has appeared alongside prominent actors such as Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt in the film "Edge of Tomorrow'.

She also appeared in the Royal Court Theatre production of "The Priory" and co-starred in the film "London Has Fallen" where she played MI6 agent Jacqueline Marshall. Riley began dating English actor Tom Hardy and the pair became engaged in 2010. Hardy and Riley worked together in the series "Wuthering Heights" and in the film "The Take". They tied the knot in 2014 and have two children together including a son from Hardy's previous marriage and are expecting a third child who they have named Forest.
