Chris Wesson Bosh was born on March 24, 1984, in Dallas, Texas, to Noel and Freida Bosh. Raised in the nearby town of Hutchins, he grew up alongside his younger brother, Joel. Bosh developed a strong interest in basketball during his early childhood, often playing with his father and brother. He attended Lincoln High School in Dallas, where he excelled both academically and athletically.
Bosh's talent on the basketball court emerged early. While attending Lincoln High School, he led his team to a Texas state title and was named High School Player of the Year by Basketball America. Upon graduation, he chose to attend Georgia Tech, where he majored in graphic design and computer imaging. During the 2002–2003 college basketball season, he played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, averaging 15.6 points, 9 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game. After one year, he declared for the 2003 NBA Draft.
Bosh began his professional basketball career in 2003 when he was selected fourth overall in the NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors. Initially playing as a power forward and center, he quickly became a core player for the team. In his sophomore season, Bosh increased his averages to 18.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game while playing 38.1 minutes per contest. His leadership and on-court performance earned him the role of team captain before the start of the 2005–2006 season.
In 2006, Bosh was selected as a reserve forward for the NBA All-Star Game in Houston. The following year, he was voted an All-Star starter for the Eastern Conference. That same season, he made a memorable 65-foot buzzer-beater to secure a win over the Washington Wizards. Despite enduring an injury in 2009 that caused him to miss part of the season, Bosh returned in top form, gaining strength and increasing his playing weight to 250 pounds.
