A Journalist’s Story: Chris Hansen

When we turn on the news we see many journalists giving us the details of what is happening in our small towns and in our world. Chris Hansen is one of those journalists that have devoted his life to revealing what he thinks the people need to know about the current things happening in the world.

Chris Hansen was born on March 26, 1959 in Lansing Michigan. His parents named him Christopher Edward Hansen, but everyone called him “Chris”.

When Chris was a young teenager of fourteen the FBI and police were investigating the now infamous disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa. Chris once told a reporter from the Lansing City Pulse that watching the investigation of Hoffa’s disappearance in the news is what created his desire to become a journalist.

With a career in journalism on his mind Chris attended Michigan State University. He studied telecommunications at the College of Communication Arts and Sciences there until he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 1981.

Early Career

While he was in his senior year of college at Michigan State University he started working as a reporter for the NBC affiliate WILX. While the young journalist was working here there was a riot at the prison in the southern Michigan town of Jackson. The young journalist was on the scene to witness the fires and the chaos that was happening in the prison yard. Back at the station the news director interviewed the jittery young journalist about what he had witnessed, and the impact it had made on him. This segment went on the air that night and Chris received a call from the prison warden. The warden was going to allow select inmates the chance to give an interview with the news media about the event and Chris was selected to be the journalist they would tell their story to. For a 21 year old journalist this was an awesome chance.

Name Making News

Chris started working with the popular Dateline NBC program and he covered many sensational stories. He was there to cover the Columbine massacre and the Oklahoma City terrorist attack. He reported on the Unabomber and the disaster of flight 800 of TWA. He presented the majority of the coverage concerning 9/11 that aired on Dateline.

Chris did a series on the lack of security at airports that was life changing for all airline passengers. After his series aired the Federal Aviation Administration opened their own investigation into lax airport security. This FAA investigation led to the changing of policy at airports.

The real name maker for Chris Hansen was his work on the news series called “to catch a Predator”. This series showed pedophiles in the act of contacting what they thought were juvenile girls and boys. There were people imitating young children online and when the pedophile would eventually show up at the meeting place with what they thought was a child they were going to manipulate sexually they would be met by Chris Hansen and a camera crew.

The Alleged Chris Hansen Scandal

Unfortunately for Chis Hansen the camera of the Enquirer caught him going to the apartment of Kristyn Caddell and coming out with luggage on the morning following a trip with Miss Caddell to a hotel. Since Chris is a married man with two children at home the reports of his allegedly having affairs have created quite a stir.
