Chris McKendry was born on February 18, 1968, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended Archbishop Ryan High School, where she excelled academically and athletically. A talented tennis player, McKendry earned a tennis scholarship to attend Drexel University, where she graduated in 1990. Her early passion for sports, particularly tennis, laid the foundation for her future career in sports journalism.
Following her graduation, McKendry began her career as a sports reporter with ABC. In 1996, she joined ESPN as a sports anchor. Her early work included anchoring on ESPN News, the network's 24-hour sports news channel.
