Christy Moriarity was born in the middle of 50s. Her exact date of birth is not available at this time, which is why her exact age also cannot be stated with assurance. There is no any information about her childhood, parents or siblings. Along with her husband Doug Moriarity, they are parents of their one son Jay Mariarity. The couple lived in Georgia in the end of 70s.At that time they were blessed with their child Jay, who was born on June 16, 1978. Her husband Doug was on the United States Army Special Forces so her family moved soon to Santa Cruz.

Jay was raised there, and even founded his big interest to surfing. Jay spent a lot of time in the sea, except his surfing skills he was known as an outstanding swimmer, talented paddler, diver as well as fisherman. He was very passionate and serious in his dreams and he was planning to become a real master.

He started his brilliant career as a surfer, at the age of 15. Jay got his reputation of professional surfer by surfing at the Mavericks in Half Moon Bay, California State. Jay was made internationally famous surfer, when he appeared on photo with his wipeout. Soon after that he appeared on the cover of the “Surfer” journal. He made an intense physical and mental training with his hardworking master and close friend Frosty Hesson. We should remember that he almost died when he was 16, winning one of the most dangerous waves in the world.

Besides surfing, he also was fond of motocross and skydiving, has successfully completed more than 100 jumps. A couple of months before his death, he also became a co-author for a book alongside with Chris Gallagher, which was titled "The Ultimate Guide to Surfing". Throughout his short career way he received many sportsmanship awards and even was titled as a soul surfer. His biography, entitled “Chasing Mavericks”, was released in the 2012. The movie was directed by Curtis Hanson, while actor Jonny Weston played the role of Jay Moriarity.

He died just one day before his 23rd birthday in the 2001. He spent a lot of time in the Indian Ocean near the coast of the island Lohifushi, which is in the Maldives. He drowned in an apparent diving accident during his training. According to his friends, he went free-diving alone in the morning and wasn’t seen after. Later, in the Friday night, the search party recovered his body. Previously, Jay married to his school girlfriend Kim in the 2000. His total net worth is not disclosed by any source.

Christy and her husband Doug are still living in Santa Cruz. After losing her son, Christy and other family members of Jay almost never appeared in the media resource, except the movie premiere of “Chasing Mavericks” and several events of 10 years anniversary of Jay’ death. The tragedy of Jay is forever imprinted in the history of surfing as one of the most dangerous sports.
