Colin Firth

Colin Firth was born on 10th September 1960 in village of Grayshott, Hampshire, England. His parents were both teachers, mother comparative religion lecturer in University of Winchester while his father was history lecturer.  Hi elder sister Kate who as an actress and voice coach while Brother Jonathan is a actor. Their parents grew up in India since his grandfather was Anglican Church priest who was stationed in India. Colin childhood was full of traveling because of his parents job which saw him spent years in Nigeria. They also lived in St Louis Missouri which to him was a difficult place he lived in.

Education

Colin returned to United Kingdom to attend Secondary School at King School where he was considered outsider and a target of bullying. Colin knew that he wanted to be a professional actor at early age of 10 and thus started attending drama workshops. He did not like school since he thought what was being taught was not of interest to him. On completing sixth form he moved to London where he joined the National Youth Theatre where he started his acting career. He got a job at Wardrobe department in National theatre and from there he enrolled to study at Drama Centre London. University of Winchester awarded Firth honorary degree in 2007.

Awards

For his role in battle of mount tumbledown Cole was nominated for 1989 BAFTA and BFCA awards. He won the BAFTA awards for best actor in leading role in 2010. In 2009 during the 66th Venice International film festivals he was awarded the Volpi Cup for the role he played as Tom Ford’s debut.

Career

Colin has appeared in several movies for example between 1983 to 2009 he acted in; another county, A month in the county, Tumbledown, Pride and Prejudice, the English patient

His career breakthrough came when he acted in Mr. Darcy the BBC television the “Pride and Prejudice”. He also participated in television series such as Donovan quick and Wilhelm Stuckart in Conspiracy. He also was involved in film ‘Then she found me” and ‘the Last legion’.  In the year 2008 he tried music and he found out more tasking and very demanding. Colin also starred in the movie “King Speech” which received the Toronto International Film Festival (TFF). He appeared in “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” in 2011 and in 2013 co-starred the movie “Magic in the moonlight” and by 2015 he starred in film “Kingsman” a comedy that fetched a gross of $412.4milion against a small budget of 81 million.

Publications

Firth has published his work entitled “The department of nothing” which contains stories for children. He has also contributed to the book “we are one, a celebration of tribal people”. Firth also produced Audiobook entitled “the end of the affair” which was awarded the Audiobook of the year in 2013.                     

Personal Life

Colin was in relationship with Meg Tilly in 1989 his co-start in Valmont and they had a son together called William. Together they moved to lower mainland of British Columbia, Canada where his career was slow until in 1994 when they broke up and he returned to United Kingdom. In 1997 he married Livia a film producer and director and together they have two children Luca born in 2001 and Matteo born in 2003. Currently Colin lives Shiswick London and Umbria, Italy with his family.

Activism

He is a supporter of survival international a NGO which defends the rights of tribal people. His efforts have not only been in abroad but also in African countries like Botswana where he defended Gna and Gwi people (San). He has also defended the rights of asylum seekers who were about to be deported to Congo.
