Early Life and Education

In 1972, following the success of his father's music career, the Gooding family relocated to Los Angeles. Just two years later, however, Cuba Gooding Sr. left the family, and Cuba Gooding Jr. was raised primarily by his mother. During his school years, he attended four different high schools, ultimately serving as class president in three of them due to his charisma and leadership. His interest in performing emerged early, with a strong inclination towards acting from a young age.

Gooding was discovered by an agent while performing in a school play, which led to steady work in commercials. His first professional role came as a breakdancer during the closing ceremonies of the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles.
