Early Life and Background

David Alaba was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1992. His father, George Alaba, is from Nigeria and was a DJ and rapper in the early 2000s. His mother is from the Philippines and worked as a nurse. Despite his Nigerian heritage, Alaba was not selected to represent Nigeria internationally. According to Alaba, his father's admiration for Nigerian footballer Sunday Oliseh sparked initial interest in representing Nigeria, but the Nigerian Football Federation declined, reportedly due to their preference for players based in Nigeria. Alaba later fully committed to representing Austria on the international stage.

Professional Career at Bayern Munich

Alaba began his football career at a local Austrian club, SV Aspern, before joining the youth system of Austria Wien. In 2008, at the age of 16, he moved to Bayern Munich, becoming part of their reserve team. In 2009, he made his debut for Bayern’s senior team and was assigned a first-team squad number in 2010.

At just 17, Alaba made his UEFA Champions League debut in 2010. The following year, he was loaned to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to gain more playing experience. After returning to Bayern Munich, his role on the team strengthened. Though he missed the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final due to suspension, he played a key part in subsequent Champions League campaigns.

In 2013, Alaba extended his contract with Bayern until 2018 and continued to shine in multiple positions. He became known for scoring the seventh-fastest goal in Champions League history and took part in the German Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup the same year. In 2015, he was voted into the UEFA.com Team of the Year for 2014 by fans and signed another contract extension with Bayern through 2021.
