David Gergen

David Gergen is known as an American political commentator and former presidential adviser. He was active in the White House during the administrations of Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton.

Career

David is familiar to television audiences because he regularly fills in as a senior political analyst for CNN and works effectively with a rising age of new political leaders. Previously, he has filled in as a White House counselor to four U.S. presidents of the two political parties, He expanded on those roles in his New York Times smash hit book, Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership, Nixon to Clinton which was published Simon and Schuster in 2001.

During the 1980s, he started a career in news coverage. Beginning with the MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour in 1984, Professor Gergen has been a regular reporter on public issues for 30 years. Twice he has been a member of election coverage groups that won Peabody awards, and he has added to two Emmy award winning political investigation teams. In the late 1980s, he was lead supervisor of U.S. News and World Report, working with publisher Mort Zuckerman to accomplish record numbers.

David Gergen is public services teacher and establishing director of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School. These are prominent positions that he has held for over 10 years.
