Joining the New England Patriots

In 2015, Lewis signed a reserve/future contract with the New England Patriots. After an impressive preseason, he earned a spot on the Patriots' 53-man roster. In the season opener, he stepped in for LeGarrette Blount and recorded 120 scrimmage yards, showcasing his versatility as both a runner and receiver. His strong early-season performance led to a two-year contract extension through the 2017 season, which included $1.8 million in incentives and a $600,000 signing bonus.

Unfortunately, his 2015 season was cut short after he suffered a torn ACL in Week 9 against the Washington Redskins. He was subsequently placed on the injured reserve and missed the remainder of the season.

Track and Field Achievements

In addition to his football career, Lewis was a three-year letterman in track and field at Blair Academy. He competed in sprints, relays, and the long jump, demonstrating athleticism that translated well to the football field.

Path to the NFL Draft

Lewis chose to forgo both his junior and senior years at Pittsburgh, declaring for the NFL Draft after just two seasons. His outstanding freshman year had put him on the radar of scouts, and he opted to take the leap into professional football earlier than most, a decision that launched his eventual NFL career.

Recognition and Teammate Nicknames

During his time with the New England Patriots, teammate Julian Edelman affectionately nicknamed Lewis "Little Dirty" and "Jitterbug" due to his elusive running style and tenacity on the field.
