His father is Donnie Qualls and his mother is Debbie. He was born and also raised in up in Manchester, in the Tennessee City and this is where he attended his early school.  When he was at the age of 14, he was diagnosed to suffer Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After being treated for two years, he was told that the cancer has diminished. He graduated in the Coffee County Central High School. In the high school, he was the active member of the Red Raider band and he went to the University of London where he did English Language and English Literature. He joined Belmont University in the Nashville where he took acting classes from a certain theatre company in the area.

At the beginning of his career like an actor, Dj Qualls appeared in 1994 HBO film called Against the Wall. In 1998, he did appear in the miniseries called Mama Flora’s Family where he had a small role as Jason.  He auditioned for Road Trip where he appeared as the shy virgin Kyle Edward after meeting Ivan Reitman.  At the same time, he was also modeling for Prada and was posing for photographers like David LaChapelle and Steve Klein. He was in the film such as Comic Book Villains, Criminal Intent, Criminal Minds, Lone State of Minds, The New Guy, Comic Book Villains and Big Trouble and the Monk.  He appeared in the music video for the song of Britney Spears called Boys and in I am Just a Kid of Simple Plan.

About his private life, he had not been that open about his life and he likes to keep away from the media. He does not like to reveal too much when it comes to his dating life so it is hard to assume that he is married or is dating someone.  He dated nikki reed in the past.  However, not having any information about his dating life does not conclude him to be a gay. When it comes to his physique, he is too skinny and has a good height and this can be seen through his shirtless pictures.
