Don Henley full name Donald Hugh "Don" Henley was born on 22 July 1947, in Gilmer, Texas. He spent most of his childhood in Linden, Cass County, Texas. His father was a WWII veteran who later started a vehicle parts business. Don was given piano lessons by her mother as a child, but he was not interested enough to learn it. He was more interested in playing football and so he joined the high school football team. This, however, did not work for him and after an injury, he decided to switch over to the school band. Playing drums came naturally to Don and he mastered the art of drumming in the high school itself.
He started playing with his friend Richard Bowden who was a guitarist for the Four Speeds. Later the band changed its name to Shiloh and kept going strong throughout the high school but his music career took back seat when he enrolled into college to get a degree in English literature. In 1968 a then famous singer encouraged Shiloh to continue singing after listening to one of their songs.
Don then moved to Los Angeles with Shiloh to pursue his music career. Shiloh recorded an original album for a label called Independent Imprint Amos in the summer of 1970. His life, however, changed when he met guitarist Glenn Frey, who was from Michigan and had recently relocated to L.A. He persuaded Henley to join his touring band along with bassist Randy Meisner and guitarist Bernie Leadon. This group of musicians later came to be known as the Eagles. The Eagles climbed up to the top 20 on Billboard's album charts and scored two top 10 singles, Take It Easy and Witchy Woman.
Eagles became one of the most influential bands of 1970. The next album Desperado which was released in 1973 was a huge success for the band and for the rock altogether. The Eagles continued to their rise to fame with On the Border which was released in 1974. The very next year they produced another hit album called One of these Nights. While on tour they did not have much time to produce songs so they released a compilation record containing their greatest hits which have since then sold more than 29 million copies, only Michael Jackson's Thriller could sell more than that.
In 1976 the Eagles released Hotel California which to this date is remembered by the music lovers all over the world. This song got them the Grammy for the Record of the Year. Despite their huge success, the band split up in 1980 and their own ways. Henley then went on to start his solo career. He released his first solo album named I Can't Stand Still in 1982, Dirty Laundry being one of the best songs of that album.
Henly married Maren Jensen in 1980 although this marriage did not last long and they had to go through the divorce in 1986. He later married Sharon Summerall in 1995 with whom he has 3 children one boy and two girls.
His net worth is estimated to be around $200 million which makes him the fourth richest drummer in the world. His biography can be read in detail on Wikipedia.
