Donatella Versace is an Italian fashion designer who serves as the chief creative officer of Versace and the current vice president of the Versace Group. She has been instrumental in maintaining and evolving the iconic brand since the late 1990s.
Donatella Versace was born on May 2, 1955, in Reggio di Calabria, a city in southern Italy. She was the youngest of four children in a close-knit family. Her father worked as a personal financial adviser for the Italian aristocracy. Tragically, Donatella’s older sister, Tina, died at the age of twelve due to a tetanus infection that was not properly treated.
Donatella began her fashion journey working closely with her brother, Gianni Versace, the founder of the Versace fashion house. In the 1980s, Gianni honored her influence by releasing a perfume named Blonde, inspired by her persona. He also entrusted her with the Versus line, a sister brand of the main label.
Following Gianni's tragic death in 1997, Donatella assumed full artistic control of the brand. Her vision and leadership helped sustain Versace’s global presence, blending tradition and bold innovation. Currently, her brother Santo Versace holds a 30 percent ownership stake in the company.
Donatella was formerly married to American model Paul Beck. The couple has two children: Allegra Versace Beck and Daniel Versace. Allegra later inherited a 50 percent stake in the company, further entwining the family's legacy with the brand’s future.
Gianni Versace was murdered on July 15, 1997, outside his Miami Beach mansion, Casa Casuarina—now commonly known as the Versace Mansion. The tragedy captured global attention and led to a widespread manhunt for the killer. Following the incident, Donatella and other members of the Versace family temporarily relocated to a secluded resort in the Caribbean for safety and privacy.
