Early Life and Amateur Career

Dustin Johnson was born in 1984 in Columbia, South Carolina. He is of American nationality and white ethnicity. Johnson played collegiate golf at Coastal Carolina University, where he demonstrated significant talent early on. As an amateur, he secured victories in both the Monroe Invitational and the Northeast Amateur tournaments. Additionally, he was a member of winning teams in the 2007 Walker Cup and Palmer Cup competitions. He became the first player since Tiger Woods to win at least once in each of his first seven seasons on the PGA Tour after turning professional.

Professional Debut and Early Wins

Johnson turned professional in 2007 and earned his PGA Tour card for the 2008 season after finishing tied for 14th at the PGA Tour Qualifying School. He claimed his first PGA Tour victory at the Turning Stone Resort Championship in New York. Just four months later, he secured another win at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, a tournament shortened to 54 holes due to inclement weather. Johnson won by four strokes over Mike Weir and five over second-round leader Retief Goosen. By 2009, he ranked 15th on the PGA Tour money list, marking a strong start to his professional career.

Major Championship Performances and Rankings

Johnson won his first major title at the 2016 U.S. Open, held at Oakmont Country Club, finishing with a 4-under-par score of 276. Prior to that, he had notable showings in other majors, including ties for second at the 2011 Open Championship and the 2015 U.S. Open. Throughout his career, he has been consistently ranked among the top five players in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and has held the world number one position for extended periods. Following his win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Johnson was recognized as one of the longest drivers on the PGA Tour, a reputation he retains to this day.
