In 2010, Allen started all 13 games and was a second-team All-ACC selection after recording 33 receptions for 373 yards with a touchdown
He was also recognized as the most outstanding college tight end in 2011.After his football college career ended, he was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He had built up enough credentials to be selected early in the draft.
