Dwayne Lamont Allen was born on February 24, 1990. Allen was born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He went to classes in Terry Sanford High School in his hometown of Fayetteville. Allen played high school football for the Terry Sanford Bulldogs. During his high school football career, he had 68 receptions for 1,257 yards.

Career

During his college football days for Clemson University, Allen earned consensus All-American honors. Allen played for the Clemson Tigers football team from 2008 to 2011. Allen was redshirted in his first season in 2008. In 2009, he started in six of 14 games. During that season, he had 10 receptions for 108 yards and three touchdowns. In 2010, Allen started all 13 games and was a second-team All-ACC selection after recording 33 receptions for 373 yards with a touchdown

He was also recognized as the most outstanding college tight end in 2011.After his football college career ended, he was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He had built up enough credentials to be selected early in the draft.
