Eddie Irvine

Eddie Irvine is known as a former race driver from Northern Ireland. He contended in Formula One racing in a period between 1993 and 2002. He finished as the runner up in the 1999 World Drivers' Championship, driving for Scuderia Ferrari.

Background

Edmund Irvine Jr. was born on November 10, 1965 in Newtownards, County Down in Northern Ireland. He was born to his father, Edmund Sr. and his mother, Kathleen. He experienced childhood in the town of Conlig and was taught his primary education at the Regent House Grammar School in Newtownards. He has an older sister, Sonia, who helped him out as his physiotherapist until 1999.

Irvine's first taste of motorsports came when his family spent their vacations going to the British Grand Prix. His father also raced in single-seaters for no particular reason other than recreation. His childhood idol was compatriot John Watson

Career

Irvine started to rival other drivers and vehicles in 1983. He was at first intrigued by motorcycle racing, however his folks thought the game too unsafe and was he urged by his father to race in Formula Ford. Irvine worked unpaid in his father's scrapyard, as an end-result of which, his father supported his racing hobby and dreams.
