Aaron James Hawk is a former American football linebacker who was born on January 6, 1984. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2006 and went on to play 11 seasons in the NFL.

Early Years and Education:

Aaron James Hawk was born on January 6, 1984, in Kettering, Ohio, and grew up in Centerville, both suburbs of Dayton. He attended Centerville High School, where he was a teammate of former Cincinnati Bengals <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Nugent">kicker</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Nugent">Mike Nugent</a>. As a freshman at Centerville High School, Hawk made the varsity football team. Hawk holds several defensive records and is one of three Centerville Elks high school football players to be drafted in the NFL.

Hawk's records include most tackles in a game on three separate occasions as well as most career tackles for a total of 583. Hawk was a two-time All-State player in high school in 1999 and 2000. After high school, Hawk went on to play College Football for Ohio State where he got the honors of All-American twice and he won the Lombardi Award during his senior year. While at Ohio State University he played for the Coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Tressel">Jim Tressel</a>.

In the four years he played for the Buckeyes, Hawk played in 51 games, 38 of which he started for. He had 394 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles with the two touchdowns. He also had one blocked punt and one interception. Hawk's performance earned him a first for his team for winning all Big Ten Honors in a three year period. During his college years, he also earned the Most Valuable Player award for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Career:

One of Hawk's notable moments was during the 2005 season for the Ohio State Buckeyes when Hawk along with fellow <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Carpenter_(American_football)">starting linebackers</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Carpenter_(American_football)">Bobby Carpenter</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Schlegel">Anthony Schlegel</a>, and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Mangold">center</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Mangold">Nick Mangold</a>, grew their hair out long to honor <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Tillman">Pat Tillman</a>. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Tillman">Tillman</a> turned down a National Football League contract worth $3.6 million to join the Army in May 2002. The decision would ultimately claim his life when he was killed by friendly fire on April 22, 2004.

Straight out of college on April 29, 2006, Hawk was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 1st round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Not only was he a hot pick straight out of college, but he was also the 5th overall pick out of the entire draft. He signed a 6-year contract with the Packers, worth $37.5 million, on July 28, 2006. Hawk gained his first sack in the NFL on September 24, 2006, it was the fourth quarter when he sacked Detroit Lions <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Kitna">Quarterback</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Kitna">Jon Kitna</a>.

Hawks career got off to a hot start earning him the NFL Rookie Of The Week on October 23, 2006, after he was influential in winning a game against the Miami Dolphins. It would be the first of two NFL Rookie of the Week awards, Hawk received the second after leading his team to victory against the Minnesota Vikings on November 12, 2006.

Hawk led Green Bay with 12 total tackles in the game and recorded one sack in the Packers' 34–24 victory. For his effort in the November 12, 2006, 23–17 victory over the Minnesota Vikings, Hawk was selected the NFL Rookie of the Week for the second time. Hawk recorded 13 total tackles and 1.5 sacks and forced one fumble. Hawk ended up sacking Vikings <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Johnson_(American_football)">quarterback</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Johnson_(American_football)">Brad Johnson</a> Early in the third quarter resulting in a 10-yard loss.

Hawk went on to record the first NFL interception of his career on December 10, 2006, when he picked off <a href="/biography/alex-smith">Alex Smith</a> during a 30–19 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Two weeks later during the Packers' final game of the 2006 season, Hawk recorded his second interception of the season during a 26–7 game with the Chicago Bears securing the victory for his team. Hawk spent the first nine games as the Packers' weakside linebacker. In 2008, Hawk was moved to middle linebacker after <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Barnett">Nick Barnett</a> tore his ACL. He ultimately achieved 86 tackles and 3 sacks in the full 16 game season since he was drafted by Green Bay.

Hawk and the Packers appeared in Super Bowl XLV against the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of the 2010 season. In the Super Bowl XLV, Hawk helped his team secure a 31–25 win, he was a starter and recorded five total tackles in the ultimate dream showdown for any aspiring player. The Packers let Hawk go on March 2, 2011, but the star player resigned the following day on March 3, 2011, in order to usher in a new five-year deal. One of his low points was in 2011 when Hawk was fined $10,000 by the NFL. The reason for the exorbitant fine was for making an obscene gesture against the St. Louis Rams.

Hawk decided to restructure his contract in March 2013, but the restructuring reduced his 2013 salary from $5.45 million to $3.6 million, not exactly what the NFL star was hoping for. The restructuring also affected his 2014 salary which was reduced by $2.5 million. His 2015 salary was also reduced by nearly $3 million. All in all, the total value of the three years remaining on Hawk's deal is reduced by from $17.85 million to $10.6 million. On February 25, 2015, Hawk was released by the Packers. Hawk led the team in tackles in five of his nine seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

On January 7, 2017, Hawk appeared on a podcast with <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Breer">Albert Breer</a> where he unexpectedly announced his retirement. On April 18, 2017, Hawk told Packers' <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Thompson">general manager</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Thompson">Ted Thompson</a> that he decided to retire from the NFL. Packers' <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Thompson">general manager</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Thompson">Ted Thompson</a> said of Hawk's decision, "The first thing that needs to be said about A.J. Hawk is that he is a good man. He was a terrific teammate and a true professional during his career, and we were lucky to have him. A.J. will always be a Packer. We wish the best to him and the entire Hawk family, and thank them for all that they gave to the team and the city of Green Bay."

Personal life:

Hawk's passion for football led him to Laura Quinn who happened the sister of former NFL <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Quinn">quarterback</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Quinn">Brady Quinn</a>. The last time Hawk played with the Buckeyes was in the 2006 Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Quinn">Quinn</a> was also playing at the time. During the game, Laura showed her creativity and support for both her brother and Hawk by wearing a custom-made jersey with half Ohio State and half Notre Dame.

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Quinn">Quinn</a> even combined Brady's number 10 and Hawk's Number 47, making the number 17. Hawk even managed to sack his future brother-in-law <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Quinn">Quinn</a> twice during the game and was recognized as co-Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the bowl. Hawk seemed interested in proving to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Quinn">Quinn</a> that he was a competent and capable player and a good match for his sister. The showdown ended with an Ohio State victory.

December 4, 2010, Laura had the couple's first child, a girl who they named Lennon Noel. A short time later in January 2013, the couple welcomed their second child, a boy they would name <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_Knight">Hendrix Knight</a>. Hawk has a net worth of $25 million with his single highest salary being $5,100,000 dollars. The most valuable contract he had was worth $21.9 million.
