Alexander William Gaskarth was born on December 14, 1987. He is an English-American musician, singer, and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and principal songwriter of the pop punk band All Time Low. Born in Essex, United Kingdom, to Peter and Isobel Gaskarth, Alex moved to Baltimore, Maryland, at the age of seven. He has two half-sisters, and his older half-brother, Tom, tragically passed away when Alex was 12 years old.
Gaskarth began playing music with Jack Barakat in 2002. A year later, the two co-founded All Time Low, later joined by bassist Zack Merrick and drummer Rian Dawson. In 2004, the band signed their first recording contract with Emerald Moon Records and released their debut EP, The Three Words to Remember in Dealing with the End.
The following year, All Time Low released their debut studio album, The Party Scene (2005). Their popularity grew significantly with the release of the 2007 platinum single "Dear Maria, Count Me In," featured on their second album, So Wrong, It’s Right. In 2009, the band followed up with Nothing Personal, their third studio album. In 2011, All Time Low signed with Interscope Records and released their fourth album, Dirty Work.
In 2012, the band returned to Hopeless Records and released their fifth studio album, Don’t Panic. Their sixth album, Future Hearts, launched on April 7, 2015, and debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 75,000 copies in its first week. Gaskarth was instrumental in writing and composing many of the band's songs, contributing significantly to their sustained success.
Beyond his work with All Time Low, Alex Gaskarth has written music for several other artists, including 5 Seconds of Summer, McBusted, and Simple Plan. In 2013, he co-hosted the comedy and music podcast Full Frontal with Jack Barakat, further expanding his creative pursuits.
Gaskarth became engaged to longtime partner Lisa Ruocco and the two married on April 9, 2016. He is known for his tenor vocal range, which spans from A2 to C#5. His music and performance style have been shaped by a range of rock and pop punk bands, including Linkin Park, Creed, NOFX, and New Found Glory.
Among Gaskarth’s personal trademarks are his tattoos, each reflecting a meaningful aspect of his life. His first tattoo was of a skeleton, followed by a red rose, and another serves as a tribute to his late half-brother, Tom. Through his songwriting, musicianship, and influence in the pop punk scene, Alex Gaskarth continues to inspire aspiring musicians and songwriters globally.
