Ann Rohmer, born Ann Margaret Rohmer on March 2, 1958, is a well-known Canadian media personality and television broadcaster.
Ann Rohmer was born to Olivia and Richard Rohmer. Her father, Richard, is a well-regarded Canadian lawyer, military officer, and author. Ann has an older sister, Catherine Rohmer, who also pursued a career in law.
From a young age, Ann trained in figure skating under the guidance of esteemed coach Sheldon Galbraith. She competed at the provincial level until a car accident at the age of 14 ended her competitive skating career. Nonetheless, she maintained an active lifestyle through tennis, downhill skiing, waterskiing, and aerobics, which she also teaches.
Ann completed her high school education at Branksome Hall, a private school in Toronto, graduating in 1976. She later worked as a flight attendant for Nordair, where she was nicknamed "Miss Interline" and received a company award presented by Vice President Paul Pelletier. Ann was briefly married to Canadian Olympic skier Steve Podborski.
Ann Rohmer's television career began in the 1970s when she co-hosted "That's Life," a news and entertainment magazine show on the Global Television Network. In 1979, she anchored the syndicated entertainment news program "Show Biz."
Her national prominence grew when she joined CTV's Canada AM as a featured reporter. In 1986, Ann moved to Citytv where she became the weekend sports host. She was among the first female sports journalists in Canada to enter and report from male sports locker rooms, breaking significant ground in sports broadcasting. She later co-hosted Citytv’s "Breakfast Television" for more than 12 years, earning a reputation as one of the most recognized faces in morning television.
Looking for a new challenge, Ann transitioned to CP24 in October 2001, where she began hosting "CityOnline," an interactive call-in show. In February 2002, she expanded her on-air roles to include news anchoring and hosting segments like "Hot Property" and "Animal House Calls." She also occasionally substituted for Jee Yun Lee on "HomePage" and Tonya Rouse on "Perfect Fit."
Ann is a long-time supporter of the World Wildlife Fund and actively participates in numerous animal welfare organizations. Her advocacy for animals has been a consistent theme throughout her public life and broadcasting roles.
In June 2010, Ann announced her departure from CP24 and received a formal on-air farewell. However, by the fall of the same year, she returned to the station to continue her work as a news anchor, a role she has maintained since her return.
