Anna Chlumsky was born on December 3, 1980, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Her mother, Nancy Chlumsky, was a former flight attendant, actress, and singer. Her father, Frank Chlumsky Jr., worked as a saxophone player and chef. Both parents contributed to Anna’s early exposure to the performing arts.
Anna Chlumsky attended Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park, Illinois. She went on to pursue higher education at the University of Chicago, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies in 2002. Following graduation, she briefly worked in the publishing industry. She held positions as an editorial assistant at HarperCollins and later as a fact-checker for the Zagat Survey. Unsatisfied with these roles, Chlumsky decided to return to acting and enrolled at Manhattan’s Atlantic Acting School to receive formal training.
Chlumsky began her career in the entertainment industry at an early age, starting with modeling jobs. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Vada Sultenfuss in the coming-of-age films My Girl (1991) and My Girl 2 (1994). These performances brought her critical acclaim and established her as a popular child actress.
In 1994, she starred alongside Sissy Spacek in Trading Mom and appeared in Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain. Between 1995 and 1998, she acted in several additional film and television projects before taking a break from acting to focus on her education.
After completing her formal education and acting training, Chlumsky returned to acting. She appeared in an episode of 30 Rock titled “The Fighting Irish” as Liz Lemler. She also had guest roles on Law & Order—appearing as Mary Calvin in season 17 and as Lisa Klein in season 20—and in the ABC series Cupid, where she appeared in four episodes.
Chlumsky’s post-return film credits include The End of the Tour, Bert and Arnie’s Guide to Friendship, The Pill, In the Loop, The Good Guy, Blood Car, and Wait. She also featured in several independent films such as My Sweet Misery, Civil Unions: A Love Story, and Eavesdrop.
In television, Chlumsky built a diverse portfolio with appearances in Veep, where she played Amy Brookheimer — a role that earned her multiple Emmy nominations — as well as guest roles in Hannibal, Army Wives, White Collar, Three Weeks, Three Kids, Lights Out, Covert Affairs, The Quinn-tuplets, 12 Men of Christmas, House Rules, Eight Days a Week, Early Edition, Miracle in the Woods, and A Child’s Wish.
In 2002, Chlumsky publicly announced her relationship with Shaun So, a former Army Reserve member. The couple married on March 8, 2008, in New York City. They welcomed a daughter in 2013.
Anna Chlumsky stands at 5 feet 2 inches tall and has an estimated net worth of approximately $1 million. She maintains a public presence through her verified social media, including her official Twitter account: @AnnaChlumsky.
