Anna Chlumsky was born on December 3, 1980, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Her mother, Nancy Chlumsky, was a former flight attendant, actress, and singer. Her father, Frank Chlumsky Jr., worked as a saxophone player and chef. Both parents contributed to Anna’s early exposure to the performing arts.

Education and Early Career

Anna Chlumsky attended Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park, Illinois. She went on to pursue higher education at the University of Chicago, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies in 2002. Following graduation, she briefly worked in the publishing industry. She held positions as an editorial assistant at HarperCollins and later as a fact-checker for the Zagat Survey. Unsatisfied with these roles, Chlumsky decided to return to acting and enrolled at Manhattan’s Atlantic Acting School to receive formal training.

Breakthrough Roles and Child Acting Career

Chlumsky began her career in the entertainment industry at an early age, starting with modeling jobs. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Vada Sultenfuss in the coming-of-age films My Girl (1991) and My Girl 2 (1994). These performances brought her critical acclaim and established her as a popular child actress.

In 1994, she starred alongside Sissy Spacek in Trading Mom and appeared in Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain. Between 1995 and 1998, she acted in several additional film and television projects before taking a break from acting to focus on her education.
