Anna Chlumsky was born on December 3, 1980, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Her mother, Nancy Chlumsky, was a former flight attendant, actress, and singer. Her father, Frank Chlumsky Jr., worked as a saxophone player and chef. Both parents contributed to Anna’s early exposure to the performing arts.
Anna Chlumsky attended Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park, Illinois. She went on to pursue higher education at the University of Chicago, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies in 2002. Following graduation, she briefly worked in the publishing industry. She held positions as an editorial assistant at HarperCollins and later as a fact-checker for the Zagat Survey. In 1994, she starred alongside Sissy Spacek in Trading Mom and appeared in Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain. Between 1995 and 1998, she acted in several additional film and television projects before taking a break from acting to focus on her education.
