Career

She moved to Syracuse, New York to pursue a higher education. She attended the communication school belonging to the private research Syracuse University. In 1989 she graduated magna cum laude from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University with a degree in broadcast journalism. Along with that she also did additional studies in Nutritional Sciences.

After college

After graduating, she started to work in a New York licensed radio station. More specifically, she moved to New City, New York in the United States of America. The radio she first worked for was situated in a village named Pomona inside the county of New City. The radio was the WKRL, AM 910. During her time there she worked as a news presenter and as a reporter. She then started to work as an anchorwoman and assistant news director at News 12 Network.

Working for CBS

Some time later, in 2008, she began her work at WCBS. The WCBS is a broadcast television station that belongs to the CBS Television Network. During her time working for the network, she covered breaking news and had exclusive access to certain locations. She reported from underwater about the FBI’s underwater anti terrorism team; she gained exclusive access. She covered the World Trade Center attacks that occurred in 1993 and later in 2001. She travelled to Rome, Italy and reported on the events surrounding the then Pope John Paul II. Apart from that she was able to locate one a missing elder woman, that had disappeared on the Blackout of 2003.

She has also become an icon of pop culture, for example, clips from her time at News 12 Westchester appeared in Indian Point: Imagining the Unimaginable a 2004 Home Box Office documentary film directed by Rory Kennedy.

The Awards

Calvi work has been impressing, as she has earned on her years of work, not one nor two, but six Emmy awards. One award was given in 2009, for her breaking news coverage of the odyssey of the US Airways Flight 1549; this event, more commonly known, as the Miracle on the Hudson, had the Airbus A320 encountering difficulties after a flock of birds struck against the jet engines, lost power and had to make an emergency landing. It bears mentioning that another Emmy was given to her because of her series, Predator Next Door, this was a television show that took an in depth look at sexual paedophiles. Other awards she won were given to her for her breaking news coverages.

Family

Calvi is married to Mike Spano, he has been the Democratic forty-second Major of Yonkers, New York since being elected back in 2012. With her husband, she had three children, two sons, Michael and Christopher, and a daughter, Alexandra. The five of them live together in the city of Yonkers, New York; it is an adjacent city of New York City. Yonkers is also the birthplace of her husband and their place of residence during his time as Major.
