Annie Potts is an American actress born on October 28, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Powell Grisette Potts and Dorothy Harris Potts. She was raised in Franklin, Kentucky, alongside her two sisters, Mary Eleanor Potts Hovious and Elizabeth Gressette "Dollie" Potts. Potts graduated from Franklin-Simpson High School in 1970 and later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.
Potts began her professional acting career in 1977. She garnered early recognition with her role in the 1978 film Corvette Summer, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year. Her breakout role came in 1984 with the iconic supernatural comedy Ghostbusters, where she played the memorable receptionist Janine Melnitz.
